7 Khoon Maaf - Pretty Forgettable

It's pretty awful when you go with some big expectations and a pre conceived notion of a feel good, which is created mostly by the misleading trailers these days. I wonder if VB was finding ways of insulting Ruskin Bond's work or he intentionally/non-intentionally molested it but this one is surely his worst piece of work so far. You definitely expect something good from someone like him who created a beauty from Bond's previous work in "Blue Umbrella", and also marvels like "Maqbool" and "Omkara".

A small disappointment in "Kaminey" hadn't affected my affection for this man's creations, though after 7KM, I would be more cautious for next time. Right from direction to screenplay to camerawork to music, there wasn't a field in which this movie wasn't a failure. I at least expected wonderful performances from such a great cast, but be it PC or Naseeruddin Shah or Anu Kapoor, and several others, it turned out to be pretty mediocre performance by one and all.

The whole plot moves ahead lazily at snail speed, making it even worse. It may have turned out to be at least an above average flcik, if it would have been somehow shortened to half its current length. Though Ruskin's stories do have weird & dark characters now and then, but Usha Uthup and his maid partner played their part quite foolishly. It can be said that it was done to make those characters look dark, but it actually didn't work out well.

Music looked pretty flat. Apart from "Darrrrrling" and "Bekaraan" there is no other peppy or touching or even a rocking song, not even something to go along with the darkness portrayed in the movie. As one of my friend asked, "Should I go for it or not", my reply was,"If you have some extra money to spend and its hurting your pocket, you surely should".

Still it's one of those movies which may turn out to be fancy(read weird, dark & different) for some. I would just say, "Go at your own risk".

My Rating: 4/10

  3. hehe...thnx...there were certain gud thngs too but i was so pissed off yesterday that i just forgot to mention them.

Make up of the characters specially priyanka for her various ages was too good. The costumes from bright to gloomy to dark were quite apt and selected proficiently too. One more thing was the way the various real time frames were described using ceratin events and clips etc was a good idea.

Thing is VB tried smthng good and its appreciable to try to get some good literary work on screen but this time he wasn't even close to what he could've done
